May 2002 Report on Finnish Gasifiers, Opet Report number 4.

Nine Bioneer updraft gasifiers, originally developed with the cooperation of SME company and VTT were constructed in 1982-1986 with outputs of about 5 MWth. They are coupled to district heating boilers and drying kilns. The Bioneer gasifiers have been fairly successful and most of the plants are still in commercial operation. However, demand for electricity has risen in Finland faster than demand for heat, and the economics of generating electricity demand higher outputs, than can be economically feasible for biomass gasifiers based on the Bioneer systems.
